BTCC V Oxford IV
A disappointing performance from a weakened side that visited Oxford IV X1
The Captain lost the toss again and Oxford elected to bat.
Chris Greenway open from one end and bowling a familiar tight line kept the opening batsman quite.
Unfortunately his partner from the other end was wayward and after 3 expensive overs, the Captain took over duties and hoped taking the pace off may stem the runs. Chris was relieved after 9 overs having only 26 taken from his spell by Ben Shepherd. He bowled in tandem with Des for 21 overs, as the bowling options were limited. Wickets were taken by both Ben 18.3.69.3 and Des 16.3.53.2 but two batsmen stood out for Oxford Smith with 49 and Latif 51no. There was a bowling debut for Jamie Galvin who bowled 6 respectable overs as he normally plays U15 cricket and a 1 over cameo by Stuart Cooper. Oxford were still able to post a score of 212 off their 53 overs.
With our batting line up looking respectable the target was viewed as achievable. Unfortunately the track was stating to deteriorate and the opening batsmen never looked at ease. Both Dave and Matt were out cheaply and with Chris Greenway not feeling well and leaving the field it fell on the shoulders of the middle order to chase down the score. Coops looked good at the crease (11) but only Mark Grass dropping from the 1st X1 rose to the challenge and scored a creditable 45 with a mixture of brute force and brute force. Tom Brooks had an unlucky decision (5) and Abs has now perfected his sweep/chip/top edge to a fine leg fielder and was caught for 16. Chris returned and set about securing a draw and Ben blazed away briefly for 19. The last three batsmen failed to prevent the loss as Chris battled away to remain not out (18) Kane was bowled in the penultimate available over and Bletchley finished on 158.
Next week it’s the local derby when we host Wolverton bring it on.
