Club History1926 To DateA Brief history of Bletchey Town CC Bletchey Town CC was formed in 1926 under another name by E.C. Cook (a Yorkshireman by birth), the then headmaster of Bletchley Road Council School. This team consisted mainly of schoolmasters and a few of their friends and was known as E.C. Cooks XI. All fixtures were evening games played against local village sides like Drayton Parslow, Great Brickhill, Stoke Hammond, Stewkley and Woughton. At this time, having no ground, all games were away fixtures! At an inaugural meeting held on February 16th 1928 Bletchley Town Cricket Club was founded. The first president of the club was Lady Leon, the owner of Bletchley Park which was to become the home of the club for the next twenty two years. The original pavilion still stands, until recently used as a music centre. The original College for Further Education was built on part of the ground. This has since been demolished and a larger college built across the entire cricket pitch. Bletchley Park had been a venue for cricket for many years prior to 1928 but in a private capacity. The park during its heyday was one of the finest grounds in Bucks and was used by Buckinghamshire for Minor Counties fixtures. In 1950 the club moved to Manor Fields. The present Bletchley Sports Club building was opened officially two years later in 1952, on 14th of October by H.R.H. Duke of Edinburgh, after moving from changing in the back of the 'Swan' Public House. In 2003 the Bletchley Town Cricket Club took a forward step in trying to unify Milton Keynes cricket by playing their fixtures at Campbell Park. The move, in an attempt to bring together the finest cricketing talent in the area, meant that the name of the club had to change to reflect this. Milton Keynes Park Cricket Club was born and was set up to offer the highest standard of cricket in the Milton Keynes area. However, following successful negotiations around leasing Manor Fields, we are no longer involved with Campbell Park and have now reverted to Bletchey Town CC with two pitches available to us. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY OLD BLETCHLEY/MK PARK CRICKET PHOTOGRAPHS FOR OUR GALLERY. |
