BTCC V Cumnor
Bletchley were away to Cumnor this week, having taken max points in the home fixture to a lacklustre Cumnor performance back in May we were up for another win against a side second bottom of the league.
Cumnor’s second ground is a smallish oval and slopes away at one end, but always a nice place to play and a welcoming team with runs to be had.
Looking at the wicket I thought 150ish, I found out later their skipper thought the same.
Win the toss……..we did and stuck them in.
The opener Madden batted really well and was the start that Cumnor would have wanted, finally going on to score 74 but he was not supported by the rest of the top order, and the next four batsmen only contributed 20 additional runs.
The opening bowlers Greenway and Kane had run through 20 overs for the loss of 52 runs, taking a wicket a piece
I mentioned the small ground earlier and an old combatant Mick Shepherd aided by McCutcheon decided the score, so far, was too low and proceed to despatch the ball, An error of judgement on my part as I| took off Ian “Ricardo” Smith he had bagged two wickets earlier and who Shepard had not played well and introduce a seam attack. Shepherd and McCutheon added 44 and 41 respectively and with McCutcheon out caught at deep mid on off Kane, Shepherd was joined by Bailey who at 6’ 7” had long levers and smashed 31 Smith returned to dismiss both batsmen and Cropredy finished on 233 after 53 overs…………….150ish nah
So to battle after tea.
Great start from Dave and Matt an opening partnership of 76, Matt finished on 56 and Dave scored 28, Chrissie G had to retire injured, but for the first time this year the middle order came to the party. Stuart “self belief” Cooper a towering 56 not out. Jude a curious innings ones and twos mixed in with five 4’s and two 6’s (43) Darren T a big 6 lots of mighty swishes and singles (19) with Coops saw us to the end 234 in the penultimate over.
I was impressed and proud of the performance as batting was not easy at the end, we fielded well, missed a couple of catches, bowled well especially “Ricardo” Smith
