BTCC v HorspathWe were home to Horspath and in “football parlance this was a six pointer” as we were tied in second place with the opposition
The Captain won the toss again and decided to bat.
We had a change of opening partnership as Matt Shepherd came up from the 3rd X1 and opened with Dave Shepherd (which will not be the only time this season). Things looked good as they both played fluently, both were scoring off the opening bowling partnership and Matt did not looked fazed at playing at this level.
Dave posted 27 and Matt 17.
The scoring was steady but with a maximum of 53 overs available to us we were looking for a reasonable platform to post a challenging score.
At 50 for nought a third of the way through the innings things were going well and at the halfway stage even after loosing two wickets, with Steve Gordon (42) playing for the 1st time this season and a good batting line up I was still confident we could “boss” the game.
Horspath brought on a young leg spinner and Bletchley did not play him well we had another collapse in the middle order and only thanks to a not out batting performance by Abs Premnath (36) we were able to us use all our allotted overs and were lucky to manage 167 after the 53rd over.
After tea I did not get the opening bowling partnership right and should have bowled Darren ahead of myself.
This gave Horspath the initial momentum they needed to chase down our meagre score, but we saw two sides to the potential of our side.
We did hang in there and our ground fielding was the best I have seen this year so far, long may it continue.
But we had one of those days, the introduction of Ben Shepherd saw the run rate reduced but we did not take opportunities when they arose.
Six catches not take was our undoing and some did go to hand, a different result was there for the taking.
We did take wickets and Horspath were eyeing up a draw as much as a win, but they eventually scored the winning runs in the last over having needed 50 off the last 10 overs.
So a chance spurned and we move on, we must learn by these lessons and concentrate on our individual roles in the team.
A friendly next week and a chance to have a practice ahead of our clash with Abingdon the weekend after next
